Laying in the bare bones of Episode 1 of The Brown Street.

Friday, May 7, 2010

I know I'm supposed to discuss the details of the film making process. But that will have to wait for a moment. Today, I was looking up how to become a private investigator. I did this after discovering that the photos taken on iphones have all sorts of information on them: where they were taken, when, etc. All that information going up to some satellite or something and beaming back. Following our whereabouts. A mall in Santa Barbara. A park in the San Fernando Valley. Pins on a map. Events. The game has changed. I just didn't know.

Sounds fx are slowly being dropped in. Footsteps, gravel, dirt, barefoot on wood. Ocean, seagulls. Dirt clods dropping.
Think I'll put in some that don't match at all just to throw the viewer off a little more and make them that more uneasy.
All the while figuring out a new game plan. It could just work...

OMG.
I forgot about my blog.
Other business things on my mind.
Back soon.
Promise.

The trailer for The Brown Street is cut. Now onto sound fx and sound mix. A little coloring and ta da.
Franklin Fox Newby's score is fantastic. That kid is going places. Middle school for now but....

Time to let the south secede.

Big blue sky.
My son is somewhere up in the mountains with the rest of his 6th grade class. There's snow on the ground and he refused to take his big jacket or his snow boots.
He kept talking about layering. It's hard to stay warm when your idea of layering is a short sleeved t-shirt, a sweat shirt and a thick flannel shirt and it's in the 20's.
That being said, I hope he's warm...and happy.
Met with the accountant today and even though it's in the 70's, I need that big jacket to keep me warm...and happy. Maybe, I just need to believe in layering.

We were on the beach. Another family was there. They were from Pakistan. They had been here seven years for the husband to get his degree and were returning home in the summer. Our daughters played at the edge of the water and found a star fish. We talked about war and our countries. I could see she wanted to squeeze my dog's nose, something I like to do as well. I held the large poodle for her and she squeezed his nose. I told her it was good luck. I hope for all of us, it is.

The computer is fixed. The trailer is moving along again. It would be good to just be able to wink or nod and have the edits happen like that. I'm sure that technology is around the corner. Hopefully only one machine would be listening at a time or you might microwave a passerby instead of extending the cut.

Something has got to give. Not give way. But give.
I have planned my days. I have my strategies in place.
I just have to keep going. The monster is chasing me. If I keep looking back at him, he'll grab me for sure. I've just got to run fast and not get so flustered that I drop the keys. Unlock the door, slam it behind me.
Safe.
I'm in.

There were so many stars this weekend and the sky was dark black. Orion and the Big Dipper dancing in the darkness, spinning, making me dizzy. And suddenly gravity lets go and you fall, faster, meteoric, fire erupts from your heels. And the air is whipped from your lungs as you plunge into that darkness.
Okay, enough about that.
We went to a friend's house last night to watch a DVD. But there was this knocking coming from the ceiling. She calmly explained that the house was haunted. At first I was more afraid of the ugly furniture but the knocking was making it hard to hear the movie. So we went onto the internet and discovered that the more frequent the knocking, the angrier the haunter was.
So even though we really wanted to watch that movie, we made our apologies and left.
May the ides be kind to you.

TGIF
Thank god it's Friday.
Thor goes in fury.
Trees go into forests.
Traffic goes in front.
Terror gasps in frenzy.
Tanks go into France.
Traitors give info freely.
Transgress greedily, it's freeing.
Tiptoeing giants in flats.
Transmissions grind in Fiats.
Time goes into forever.
There go I, friend.

Well, the ides of March are approaching. So just in case, I picked up a penny today while I was running. It was heads up so it was safe. I haven't kept a lucky penny in a while, always throwing it back for the next person. But I'm keeping this one. Someplace safe. Next to the first aid kit.
Just in case.

Capture scratch, project files, waveform, thumbnail.
Organizing the new computer and drives takes a lot of time and somehow while the whole process is supposed to lead to simplification, we are feeling mostly like we're dealing with a gnarly game of Twister.
In other news, the dream I was having last night about my family being spies and just escaping from the enemy's very large and expensive house before all mayhem broke out, and into a rental car, while they thought we were on a plane and then in the woods by some border, was interrupted by me actually figuring out the best trailer for the Brown Street.
But at this moment, the game of Twister is continuing. And not too well as the person at the computer is whispering "No...no...no."
The trailer waits patiently.

It's hard to be optimistic these days. The sky is blue and it is a noisy and flowering spring. And yet something hangs in the air. The wind is whispering something I can't understand. I have a recurring dream of my friend's father's memorial service. And each time it is different. The last time, the widow refused to provide food. We made a mad dash to the grocery store but it was pouring rain. The streets were flooded. So I picked up my friend by the back of her sweater and I flew us over the water. Flew. Somehow. Not wings flapping but flying nonetheless. Gritty flying. Hard flying. Ugly flying. But flying.
Somewhere I'm an optimist. But it's hard these days.

Ah, the Oscars.
Words should be flowing from me, flooding this blog.
But, alas, all I can do is sigh and move on.
I expressed all I could last night at the hottest party in town. A party with the hottest people, eating the hottest food and having the hottest time.
What happens at the hottest parties, stays at the hottest parties.
Hot out.

It's still winter. Everyone is broke. And tensions are flaring. What will happen this summer when the temperature soars? It just might get ugly out there.

In the 1980's one would correct errors on their electric typewriters by typing backward exactly the same letters one had typed forward but this time a thin, white ribbon of whiteout tape would strike the paper thus "erasing" the error.
Now think about this for a minute. You had to type your mistakes backwards.
I'm not sure if this was somehow a precursor to video games or what. But you were typing mistakes and now imprinting them in your brain backwards.
It's a wonder we made any progress at all.

A word about distributors.
Bottom feeders.
Okay. Two words.
Will I eat these words one day? Gee I hope so.

Blog. Sounds like something Bela Legosi would say well.
The computer blew up. In my world things blow up and everything has the capacity to blow up. Anything. And everything. Credit cards. Dishwashers. Sun screen. Appendix.
One must be wary. But one must live one's life.
And learn to duck and cover. Or run very fast.
Fortunately, the new computer is almost up and running.
The screen is large. Large enough to shield me in case the dog blows up.

First Day

Monday, it will begin.
